Tonight when we got home the girls had a surprise for us. Dinner at the world class Bon Bon's Everyday Bakery. 

We chose our options and we were served up. We didn't even have to clean up after ourselves. Sheer brilliance. I could get used to this.

No Rest for the Wicked #professorproblems

Today was a 14-hour writing day.

I wrote about 4000 words on my personal statement for my Mid-Pro document....lots of looking back in reflection and planning for the future. 

After that I moved on to editing the final draft of an article I co-authored with a colleague. We submitted it tonight! Hooray. 

Tomorrow. No writing.

Love / Hate Relationship

These three tests and I have a love/hate relationship with one another. Sometimes we are in harmony and other times we are in distinct discord.

Bedtime and Books

I am so grateful that I get to read twice a night for pleasure. There have been times in my life that I haven't had time for pleasure reading (I'm looking at you grad school). Before bed with the kiddos and again before my bedtime. Definitely feels right. 

Woofer Wafer King & Friendship Cookies

Claire told us a story on the way home from school tonight.

There was a boy named Woofer Wafer King. He was shot and died. And that is not ok. It shouldn't matter what color your skin is. Black or white. We can be friends. It isn't nice to shoot people. These are Friendship Cookies (it took her a little help to remember the word friendship) and they are really good. They have all kinds of different things and together they are really good. We need to work together. It isn't ok to die.

We will help her with the name next year when she is four.

Sad Toast (or, it's Friday!)

This morning.

It was a slow-moving morning.

Poor, sad toast without anyone to eat it.

Eventually they came down and jammed a piece in their mouths as they walked out the door.

Thumb Action

Well, yesterday Maya got her thumb pulled backward by another kid on the playground. The nurse wrapped it up and it was a bit sore but she held her own. I watched her crank on her pants pulling them up and figured we were on the mend.

This morning she went to school and seemed to be fine...however, when she got home from school she couldn't hold onto a water glass. So...off we went to the clinic to have it x-ray'd. After more than 3 hours...we figured out that it is a rough sprain. (And apparently the x-ray machine has magical healing powers...sigh.)

So...here we are.

Grandma's last day in NY

It has been a great trip. 9 days of snuggles, snowy walks, board games, and baking! A good time was had by all!
