Today I am grateful for patience. Now I'm not talking about my own because I feel like I rarely have enough patience for the day. I am talking about the patience of the kids. Being the kid of a theatre person isn't easy. At least once a year (sometimes two or three times) I am gone every night for 6-10 weeks and most weekends. They patiently are rushed through meals and goodbyes. They do homework and hear bedtime books at non-traditional times. And over the course of the rehearsal period the family feels more and more untethered from one another.
Of course there are perks...sneak previews, backstage passes and photo ops with the casts.
