The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I'm not sure there is any other way to categorize the weekend. Seriously...lots of "interesting" updates.

Let me preface this update by saying...Danny and I are starting to think we might be a "bit" insane. And for those of you that are laughing and saying "A BIT?!?# Ya think"...piss off! :)

The Good news: We no longer have to vacuum because we have beautiful "distinguished" hardwood floors in our house.

More good news: We have beautiful clean, white outlets and switches in this front room.

The Bad News: We have to figure out how to remove a couple layers of linoleum from the entry way.

The Ugly News: We have "blown up" our satellite tv and our internet cable. All of this results in a tripped fuse as well. Both companies are coming out to do the repairs tomorrow morning and Danny is hoping to figure out why he keeps getting shocked (or why the circuit is tripping) this afternoon. Keep your fingers crossed.

In Other News: Look who is sleeping in a "big" girl bed. Last weekend (i.e. the weekend before the great carpet/dish/internet/outlet debacle) we started the transition(s) of moving Maya to her new polka-dotted big sister room. She is very excited and this is just the first of her "baby steps".

There is our update in a nutshell! :) Even I am left shaking my head today.

Appointment Update

I survived the damn gestational diabetes test once again! This time I packed a bottle of water and a granola bar to enjoy immediately following the blood draw. They also tested my thyroid levels again to make sure everything is in the right ballpark.

I have gained 6 pounds so far which still feels like 6 pounds too much...but we are measuring right on spot. My blood pressure was a lovely 110/70...so that is fab as well. We talked about delaying the antibiotic cream on the eyes until after the first nursing session and awake hour after birth. The doctor was cool with it...I thought it was mandatory here to have it but Dr. Schnapper said we could refuse it if we wanted. We will have to see.

Other than that...very little excitement. Although Maya did stand up screaming at the dinner table while pushing a poop out and had two poops in the tub. Perhaps this sounds too gross...but the poor kid hadn't pooped for well over 2 days and was clearly in need of a serious poop! Poor bug.

The last "every 4 weeks" appointment

I can't even believe it...but we are down to the every 2 weeks appointments! That seems like it is getting too close. I drank my glucose water and I'm sitting here a bit shaky and dreading getting the blood draw.

Danny and I sorted through the storage until today and found the 7 bins of stuff to go through and moved them to the front--that way, when we are ready to deal with the "details", we will have easy access.

Other than that...our house is cool, calm and collected...yeah, right! :) Well, even if we aren't we are hanging in there!

I will update later tonight when we get back from our appointment and running errands.

Oh, and not to be forgotten...a big
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to AUNTIE CAKE!

Brilliant Parenting Moment

Let me set the scene. We got home yesterday afternoon after a quick stop at Jerry's for many of the recommended ant baits. Danny's job was to deal with the perimeter of the house and mine was to team vacuum with Maya. We moved couches and vacuumed in couches and the whole deal. Outside Danny is in re-con gear spreading ant dust and spray around the house.

We all regather after our chores and Danny starts making supper. Maya gets 2 forks out of the drawer (using the new knobs) to make music. This keeps her entertained for a bit but then starts running renegade in the kitchen. There are ponies underfoot, she is opening cupboards, kind of a whirling dervish of sorts. After stepping on a million of her toys for the billionth time, Danny asks Maya to take her ponies out to the living room. Remember, this is the billionth time. Maya opens a drawer and finds a heart cookie cutter and declares that it is "MINES". Danny looks at her deadpan and says, "I don't care. What did I ask you to do?" I look at him, he looks at me and we start to laugh! Oh, our future! Seriously a brilliant parenting moment!!

And just for giggles...here is a picture of Maya after enjoying Danny's spaghetti.

AARGHHH!

We have ants.
They are stressing me out.
A LOT.
They are ugly big black ants.
I want them to go away.
If only wishing made things happen.
The End.

Weekend Recap

The exhaustion has finally let up a bit and I am able to recount our tales of craziness!

Saturday we woke up bright and early thanks to our rooster-like child! The new routine is she gets out of bed, thump-thumps to her door, opens the door, closes the door, runs to our bedroom and hops in bed under the covers while trying to convince us all it's time to get up! Every morning. The mornings we enjoy the most are the ones where it is at least 7am!

So, it's Saturday which can only mean one thing: BOUNCE! Off we went. Class was a bit of a struggle we think mostly because it was sunny and warm! (It ended up being in the mid-80s by the end of the day.) We came home and had lunch and then put Maya down for a nap. Meanwhile, Danny took a couple of loads to Lane Forest Products and BRING Recycling. Eventually, Maya fell asleep and I came out and started to put together the "over-the-toilet-shelf" for the 2nd bathroom.

When Maya woke up we all headed outside for fun in the front yard. Danny started digging out the flowerbed and I hacked away at the front hedge. Maya kept herself entertained by doing water projects, blowing bubbles and riding her little tiny bike. Danny had put out a bunch of "good wood" (read the sarcasm because it's there) and 2 neighborhood kids decided they should take ALL of it home in their red wagon. We were thankful that it was finding a new home, entertained at their moving methods, and concerned that it was going to magically appear on our doorstep once the parents realized what they were doing!

We worked outside for almost 5 hours. Danny and I knew we were in trouble when we could barely walk, talk or function at 6pm! But it felt nice to get a bunch of stuff done outside. That evening we finished the 2nd bathroom. We hung the cabinet, the towel rack and the mirror (we moved the round one from the big bathroom). It feels good to have a project finished! It still needs to be cleaned...but what doesn't in this construction zone these days!

Sunday morning Danny made some breakfast and I started to work on the knobs but quickly became frustrated by logistics. Thankfully Derick, Alina and Saffie came over to distract and assist. We loaded up all the hedge trimmings in their truck and while Danny and Alina hauled them away, Derick and I chased the girls in the backyard. We had lunch, naps and then moved on to more projects. We got all the knobs on the kitchen cabinets and got the new medicine type cabinet up in the big bathroom.

We are definitely moving ahead but we are definitely TIRED!! Somewhere in the middle we had tantrums, milkshakes and finally put together Maya's Easter bike! Here are a few pictures. Enjoy!

Yes, It's My Berf-day!

That's right people! I am 34-freaking-years-old. Thankfully I'm not 35 like some people I know! And thankfully I know a couple of people who will be joining me very soon!

We don't have much planned for the day outside of the usual "duties". I am currently being serenaded by Danny and Maya making up a song about a monster in the kitchen! It has suddenly turned on me...Mommy is the monster is the verse now!

Against my better judgment, I am posting a picture of me. Danny chased me around the house the other night trying to get pictures of my ever-expanding-girth. This is the least obscene...if that says anything.

Also a picture of Maya chasing around the house with her "noisy" Christmas pony.

Some progress and some procrastination

Well, the weekend kind of got away from us a little bit.

Saturday we got up and went to Bounce for Maya gymnastics, then Home Depot to schedule the measuring visit for our new counter tops, then to Taco Del Mar for lunch. Then we made it home for nap time for all 3 of us. I got a couple more coats of white paint on the cabinets before the Wiant's came over for supper and play time. After a biting battle at bedtime, Danny and I chilled and watched some tv before falling asleep.

Sunday we got up and I got the final coat of paint on the cabinets before we headed out for breakfast and a shopping trip for essentials. I ended up getting a few items from Motherhood (a store I absolutely detest entering) before getting a cart full of household bathroom items at Target. Seriously, it was kind of ridiculous...we got diapers and wipes for Maya, litter for Puss and toilet paper for Danny and I. We were laughing. All of a sudden we realized it was 12:15 and instead of getting home for a quick nap before a pool birthday party that we were going to have to go straight to the pool after picking up suits and towels. We lasted about an hour at the pool before an exhausted and napless Maya declared it was time to go home. Poor kid was passed out in the car immediately. A family rest was declared and at 4:30 we started hanging the doors on the cabinets. It started out pretty rough but got better...and eventually we were victorious. Maya kept busy in various ways...and we have doors up with 2 coats of paint.

I am hoping tomorrow (Tuesday) to get the final coat of paint on in the morning and spend the rest of the day installing knobs. I don't have any duties at school although I have a ton of reading and planning to do for Wed/Thurs...so we will see what I get accomplished. It's looking pretty good.

Here are a few pics. (the last one of the cabinets was taken when they were wet...so they look a bit weird and streaky)

Houston we have a FAN!

Yes, you read correctly...we have a working fan/overhead light! The "Milk-dreth's" came over last night and Danny and Terrence worked diligently to get the fan up and working. Meanwhile, Erica & Grace and Maya and I played and chatted! It feels nice to have it up and finished. Here is a picture of it in all of its glory as well as a peak at the growing white color of the upper cabinets.

Today we have Bounce (Maya's gymnastics and trampoline extravaganza). She has chosen quite the outfit to take her to the class. Here are a few pics of that as well as a picture of her hands after the morning's drawing-on-paper-at-the-nightstand-while-mom-and-dad-lay-in-bed-for-a-few-minutes art project!

We are hoping for a bit more progress on the kitchen today!!! So look for updates later tonight or tomorrow!!!

Undocumented Progress

Well tonight we made some progress. I got a first coat of white paint on the upper cabinets and doors. There is another coat necessary for sure and possibly a 3rd. Closer, closer, closer.

Terrence, Erica and Grace are coming over tomorrow night. The girls are going to "relax" and play while the boys work on the ceiling fan. Seriously we are going to touch the ceiling fan again! Hopefully tomorrow night at this time we will have an overhead light in the kitchen again.

I forgot to update but we had our 25 week appointment on Tuesday. Everything is good and boring...just like Dr. Schnapper (and us) likes it! :) We go back in 3 weeks for the 1 hour glucose test. After that we go every 2 weeks! I can't believe it...it seems like we shouldn't be at that point yet!

Maya is doing great and seems to have fully recovered from her ear infection. She is still taking her antibiotics...which is isn't really enjoying very much...but she is being a trooper.

Big Slackers!

So we are still slacking on kitchen work! Tonight my excuse was: the house is too cold. How pathetic is that?

Maya is definitely recovered. Her appetite is back, she is insanely busy and her sense of humor has returned. It's funny how much we attributed her behavior to being an obnoxious 2 year old when in reality much of it was because she was insanely uncomfortable due to her ear infection! Poor bug.

Here are a few pictures of our trip to the park last night. Yes, those are her winter boots. And no, we can't convince her that they are only for snow.
